Motorola recently launched two new flagship Droid offerings, the Moto Z and Moto Z Force. We really liked them for their ultra-premium design, strong performance, and innovative Moto Mods add-on features. However, Moto is also ushering in a refresh of their more mainstream, cost-effective Moto G family as well. We last looked at the Moto G in 2014. We weren't blown away by performance, however, we were impressed how much the device managed to offer for just $149. The Moto G delivered Android’s core experience with good enough web browsing and general productivity performance to stand... Read more...
At the end of July, we learned that there would be a chance of Android N coming out in August. Thanks to a leak that came out of Canadian carrier Telus, we might have just gained an even more accurate answer: August 22nd. The information leaked from Telus is a simple schedule of updates hitting various phone models. This list states which each update is, and for Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X, August 22nd will be the day for the "Android N Update". Per the information we found last month, it still appears that the Nexus 5 will not be treated to any nougat-flavored OS -- a harsh reminder of just how quickly... Read more...
If you're a SwiftKey user and have been experiencing some oddities lately: you're not alone. Due to a bug, some SwiftKey users have been receiving some downright bizarre recommendations, including phrases that they never use. Even worse? The software also predicted names and email addresses of other users! Once this discovery was made, the company behind the software took swift (sorry) action to pull some of its services offline; namely, the cloud-related bits. The company says that the vast majority of users were unaffected by this issue, which is a little reassuring as the software has millions... Read more...
With its ZenFone 2 series, ASUS really seemed to hit the ball out of a digital park. For $200 USD, what the phone offered was ridiculously compelling, from its large 5.5-inch 1080p screen to its dual SIM slots to its beautiful aesthetic. While it wasn't the most powerful phone out there at the time, its price still made the phone feel like a great deal. In addition to the regular ZenFone 2, ASUS also offered a 'Deluxe' model, and it'll be doing the same thing with the ZenFone 3 series. In fact, it appears that the ZenFone 3 Deluxe will be the first ZF3 phone out on the market, and as expected,... Read more...
With Nintendo's latest game - a mobile one, at that - the company has proven that there is still a lot of innovating to do in the market. While Pokemon GO is based on another title, Ingress, any game is going to have a greater chance of success when it features one of the most popular franchises ever. GO isn't just some regular Pokemon game: it's making the masses realize that augmented reality can be really cool. What's not cool, though, is that popular mobile apps are a hot target for malware. And since Pokemon GO hasn't been released worldwide yet, many have taken to the scarier parts of the... Read more...
Is the Nexus line of smartphones not Googley enough for you? Well, it looks as though Google is putting the finishing touches on a new Android smartphone that will bear its name instead of the familiar Nexus branding. This latest report of a Google smartphone comes from The Telegraph, citing “sources familiar with the discussions.” Although Nexus devices carry the torch for Android smartphones (new Nexus flagship launch with the latest and greatest version of Android), they’re designed and manufactured by third-party OEMs. Last year, Huawei was tasked with building the 5.7-inch Nexus 6P, while... A couple of days ago, notorious mobile leaker Evan Blass took to Twitter to reveal the official naming of Samsung's next phone: Galaxy Note 7. Despite the phablet moniker being thrown around a lot with this phone, it's actually only a 5.7-inch device. As you might have guessed, we now know the specs as well thanks to Mr. Blass. In a follow-up tweet, he revealed that the phone has a QHD (2560x1440) super AMOLED display, includes both 64GB internal memory and a microSD slot for external storage, and sports a 12-megapixel camera at the back, as well as a 5 megapixel one up front.Samsung's... Nothing says “finger-licking good” like a bargain basement smartphone charger. Wait, what? Apparently the marketing geniuses over at KFC India have come up with what might be one the oddest promos that we’ve seen in quite some time. KFC India has debuted a limited edition version of its 5-in-1 combo, which comes in what’s called a Watt a Box. Besides the greasy chicken and sides that you’d usually find inside your meal box, there’s also a 6100 mAh power bank that can be used to recharged your Android smartphone or iPhone (both microUSB and Lightning cables are included). Despite the generous capacity... Read more...
Rumor has it that Samsung plans on naming its Galaxy Note device the Galaxy Note 7 instead of the Galaxy Note 6 to avoid confusion with its Galaxy Edge handset, which is a numerical release ahead of the phablet. Whether that turns out to be true or not remains to be seen, but one thing we can say with confidence is that another Galaxy Note device is nearing release.Samsung made that much clear when it setup a new User Agent (AA) Profile page on its website for the not-yet-released SM-N930F. If past history is any indication, that couldn't be anything other than the next Galaxy Note device—the Galaxy... Read more...
It should be a secret to no one at this point that if you own a mobile device, you can probably run a game emulator without issue. This is especially true on the Android side, thanks to its increased openness. There, you'd actually have a difficult time finding a game platform that wasn't supported through emulation. Even advanced consoles like the Sega Dreamcast are supported. But what if you're one of those who loves classic gaming, but doesn't want to fiddle with emulation? Your best bet is to play the real cartridges, but who wants to lug around a dedicated device all day? Hyperkin is here... Read more...
It's hard to argue that one of the best things on planet Earth is pizza. Many people are up for eating pizza regardless of the time of day, and regardless of what flavor it is. Pizza is just amazing, and it holds the power to shut down entire promotional deals - as Domino's is finding out. Via its T-Mobile Tuesdays app, which rewards customers for their patronage, this week's deal proved to be a bit too much for dough spinners. To help its customers get their munch on, T-Mobile worked out a deal where its customers could get a free pizza pie, a deal which seems totally normal. But when the terms... Read more...
The OnePlus 3 is one of the hottest phones going at the moment. It offers a serious punch for its $400 asking price, and like all other OnePlus models before it, we expect it to be snatched up quickly by those who want something a little different, and get involved in an ecosystem where the phone vendor doesn't mind when its users want to get their hands a little dirty. And well, if you have a OnePlus 3 and were really looking forward to that 6GB of memory offered, you will have to get your hands dirty. It's not easy to understand exactly why OnePlus limits the RAM usage when it boasts offering... Read more...
On Thursday, Lenovo summoned the tech press to San Francisco where it took the wraps off two new mobile phone platforms that could both be game changers. It unveiled the world’s first Project Tango-enabled phone in the Phab2 Pro, and introduced an all-new type of modular smart phone with the Moto Z. The Moto Z has the ability to be upgraded via things Lenovo calls Moto Mods. We got some hands-on time with all of the new gear after the keynote, which we'll be presenting to you here. Lenovo's event was dubbed Tech World and drew over 400 media attendees from across the globe. Lenovo CEO Yang... Read more...
It's been rumored for some time that NVIDIA had lost interest in the mobile phone business, and that's something company co-founder and CEO Jen-Hsun Huang confirmed during his company's presentation at Computex. None of this is much of a surprise, as the company's Tegra SoC hasn't found itself inside of a commercially successful smartphone, but this confirmation is a bit sobering nonetheless. NVIDIA has what it takes to create an incredible smartphone SoC, and has proven that it can even build great devices surrounding those SoCs. But at the end of the day, the ROI for that particular venture... Read more...
