Summer is almost over, and to add insult to injury, Sony is getting ready to hike prices in the U.K. for its PlayStation Plus subscription service. The new prices will go into effect September 1, though if you pony up for an annual subscription, you'll be immune to the higher rates  -- it's the single month and three-month subscriptions that are going up. Though Sony didn't come right out and say it, we suspect this move is intended to encourage yearly subscriptions. Good news for PlayStation 4 owners who have yet to subscribe to Sony’s PlayStation Plus subscription which gives access to the PlayStation Network. The company announced today that this weekend, PS4 users will have access to the console's online multiplayer for free. Starting on September 26 at 12:00 AM Pacific, and lasting until September 29 at 12:00 AM Pacific, PS4 users will be able to play online with their friends for any game that has a multiplayer campaign or is a multiplayer-only title. The upcoming PS4 game Driveclub (currently scheduled for release in October 2014) is making waves for reasons that have nothing to do with its gameplay or development status. In a new video, the company has spelled out its free trial and upgrade policies, and the requirements are a doozy. Sorry, Sony fans, but the free ride for online multiplayer on the company's flagship console will come to an end when the PlayStation 4 debuts to retail next week. In order to frag your friends online, you'll need to pony up for a PlayStation Plus subscription. It's been reported recently that the fee for online multiplayer will run $9.99 per month in the U.S., 6.99 euros ($9.40) in Europe, and 500 yen ($5) in Japan, and that's led to a bit of confusion on the Internet.
