News on the Oculus front has been coming in at a rapid pace in recent weeks. Last week learned that the Oculus Rift will be delivered to paying customers starting in Q1 2016. Oculus also took the time to show us what the final version of the Rift will look like once it begins shipping. It’s been a long time coming, but we are now getting a firm release date for the Oculus Rift. Oculus confirmed today that it will open up preorders for the consumer version of its VR headset later this year, and that it will actually ship in Q1 of 2016. Beyoncé is going to be an Oculus Rift modder. So will you and everyone else who eventually dons the virtual reality headset, or so that's the future Facebook envisions for its $2 billion venture. Ever since Facebook acquired Oculus VR for $2 billion earlier this year, it seems like a fire has been lit under the team developing the Oculus Rift. The number of team members has increased, there are rumors that Oculus VR is making its own controllers, and a first-party content team was created. As if the whole Oculus Rift movement wasn't exciting enough, there's even more reason to like the virtual reality headset. The folks at iFixIt got their hands on the Oculus Rift Development Kit 2 and did what they do best -- they tore it apart, bit by bit, to evaluate its repairability. The verdict? An impressive 9 out of 10. Since the Oculus Rift is a still a beta product, the 9 out of 10 score is a preliminary one. Ever since it debuted on Kickstarter, the makers of the Oculus Rift have promised to deliver the kind of VR experience that the late 90s and blithely promised and never created. Each developer kit or milestone has substantially improved on the underlying technology, with higher resolutions, better eye alignment, faster refresh rates, and less flickering or motion blur.
