Apple, Samsung, and Sony are among a list of "major electronic brands" that Amnesty International, a human rights group, says failed to perform "basic checks to ensure that cobalt mined by child laborers has not been used in the their products." Specifically, cobalt is a critical material used in lithium-ion batteries. "The glamorous shop displays and marketing of state of the art technologies are a stark contrast to the children carrying bags of rocks, and miners in narrow man made tunnels risking permanent lung damage," said Mark Dummett, Business & Human Rights Researcher at Amnesty International.... For anyone keeping score of the modern generation console wars, it appears that Sony winning the battle of sales against rival Microsoft, as has been the case since the beginning. What's interesting is not just that Sony's sold more PlayStation 4 consoles than Microsoft has of its Xbox One, but that the disparity might be as high as 100 percent. It takes a bit of jumping around the web to arrive at that conclusion. The assumption also requires a reliance on unofficial information, which is to say you should take all this with a few grains of salt (at least a pinch). And rounding our disclaimer... Read more...
This isn't the kind of news Uncharted fans wanted to see right before Christmas, but at the same time, it's not too surprising. Via the official PlayStation Blog, we're told straight out that Uncharted 4: A Thief's End is being delayed yet again, this time until April 26, 2016. While any delay is unfortunate, many gamers have come to appreciate that it's actually better when game developers take extra time to perfect (as well as can be) their games. Need we bring up examples like Fallout 4 or Batman: Arkham Knight? The Uncharted developers want to make sure this fourth and final installment proves... Read more...

The console wars are in full force as we head into the holidays. Yes, you can expect discounted bundles and all that jazz, but when deciding your platform of choice, it comes down to things like game selection and features. A big feature that's coming to the PlayStation 4 is the ability to play PlayStation 2 games through emulation. This is a pretty big deal for Sony and its PlayStation line. The PS4 is the company's first console to launch without some sort of backwards compatibility, a fact that was recently highlighted when Microsoft introduced an Xbox 360 emulator inside its Xbox One system.... Sony hasn’t exactly had much luck in the red hot smartphone market (look no further than Verizon’s decision to ditch the Xperia Z4v), but the company has no trouble getting its image sensors into the smartphones of its competitors or in point-and-shoot and DSLR cameras. Sony Semiconductor Solutions will capitalize on past growth and huge that have been made in R&D investments (over $1 billion this year alone) and its long line of customers that depend on its image... At long last, you can purchase a PlayStation 4 console with 1TB of storage in the United States and Canada. That's the good news. Even better, the 1TB PS4 system from Sony is making its U.S. and Canadian debut in bundle form -- it includes a copy of Call of Duty: Black Ops III. Ready for the bad news?Sony themed the only 1TB console available in the U.S. and Canada with Black Ops styling and the result is rather hideous. Yes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I have no doubt some will call me crazy for dissing on the PS4's themed makeover. The rest, however, will agree that that this is... Read more...
