Given the incredible modding scene that surrounded Grand Theft Auto IV, it seemed inevitable that GTA V would follow suit. So far, that seems to be the case, although it will probably take some time before some of the best mods will be seen. Nonetheless, with prospects of great mods also comes prospects of other people trying to ruin your day, by giving you something extra with that mod. At GTAForum, user aboutseven notes that their PC was recently infected with malware, and after investigating, found that the source was a popular GTA V mod called Angry Planes. Since the post was made, many others... Read more...
When it comes to lucrative game franchises two of the most well-known ones happen to be Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto. Activision publishes the CoD franchise while Take-Two Interactive is responsible for publishing GTA. However, there are rumors floating around that Activision might be trying to purchase Take-Two. Speculation began when a research note from Benchmark analyst Mike Hickey talked about “an emerging romance” between both companies. Hickey said, “For Activision, acquiring Take-Two Interactive would be a no-brainer, in our view, circling some of the strongest development... Read more...
When it comes to waiting for ports, mobile gamers sometimes have it worse than the PC crowd. How so? Consider that while PC gamers are chomping at the bit (or "champing," if you want to avoid a citation from the grammar police) to play Grand Theft Auto V on their platform of choice, mobile gamers are still waiting for GTA: San Andreas. Well, good news mobile users, your wait has almost come to an end. Rockstar Games today announced that San Andreas is headed to mobile devices next month. There aren't any screenshots to gawk at just yet, though Rockstar did say the mobile version will look better... Read more...
It should come as a surprise to no one that video games often get the blame when certain crimes are committed - much more so than movies or TV shows ever do. A child beat up another child? Video games. A man go on a massacre in a shopping center? Of course, video games. While most logically thinking people are likely to realize that it takes a lot more than just inspiration to decide to commit a crime, the media and other groups sure don't want to believe it. Last week, an anonymous game store employee wrote an editorial at Kotaku which stated that 10% of the games he sold (of about 1,000) went... Read more...
Crime might not pay -- but video games about crime certainly do, particularly when they're the follow-up to one of the biggest franchises in gaming. Grand Theft Auto V -- easily one of the biggest titles left for the Xbox 360 and PS3 -- went on sale today and cleared $800M in revenue in just 24 hours. That's not just a record for Grand Theft Auto, it's a record for Take Two, and possibly for the entire gaming industry. Last year, Activision touted Call of Duty Black Ops II as raking in a record $500M in revenue, but this has blown way past that. Reviews of the game are excellent, with an average... Read more...
Ah, Christmas. The word itself conjures images of hearth and home, inspires (occasionally debaucherous) celebration, and is a time of spiritual contemplation for millions. In this crazy modern age, it's also a time when the bewildered parents of tech-savvy children all over the civilized world, regardless of race, ethnicity, religious background, or nationality are united through the magic of a single shared emotion—panic. From October to December, the advertising departments of a thousand companies exhort children to beg, cajole, and guilt-trip their parents for all manner of inappropriate digital... Read more...
On Monday, Rockstar Games, the developers behind the Grand Theft Auto series, announced that Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars will be coming to the iPhone and iPod Touch this fall. Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is currently available on the Nintendo DS. It's coming to the Sony PlayStation Portable in October. Price for the iPhone version? Currently unknown, and of course the app will have to make it past the App Store's approval process. While it's unclear if Rockstar has gotten pre-approval for the game, some of the content typically featured in a Grand Theft Auto game would seem to run up... Read more...
"The devil made me do it" used to be the ready-made excuse you could trot out when you got caught being naughty. Society's views on personal responsibility have changed quite a bit since the devil was listed on everybody's rap sheet as an accomplice. The modern version is playing "Grand Theft Auto made me do it."Last month, the trio – all aged between 15 and 16, and as such may not be named – allegedly firebombed three cars in North Fulton County, Georgia with homemade petrol bombs. Each weapon was made from a bottle filled with a lighter fluid, with a rag stuffed into the spout as a fuse.According... Read more...
