Following a few months of teasing, Microsoft has finally rolled out Windows 10 Enterprise E3, which can be purchased through its official Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) program. While enterprise-level software solutions are typically feared due to their expense, Microsoft is making the E3 cost-of-entry modest enough to make even small businesses consider making the switch. Microsoft is pricing Windows 10 Enterprise E3 at $7/mo, or $84/yr. While few enjoy the idea of a subscription-based OS, this is one of those products that could pay for itself over time. We're talking enterprise-level control... Read more...
We wrote a couple of days ago about a huge treasure trove of alleged NSA-derived exploits that were hitting the market. That gold mine was accessed by a group calling itself Shadow Brokers, and it's been said that their source was Equation Group, which is believed to be an extension of the NSA. At that time, there was no proof that any of the exploits contained in the collection were still valid. Quickly, some noted that a few of the targets were already patched, leading the rest of us to believe that the entire collection came a bit too late. However, anyone who thought that might have to back... Read more...
NVIDIA has just announced that its first-ever DGX-1 deep-learning server has found a home, and it couldn't be more appropriate. That new home is with OpenAI, the world's largest non-profit artificial intelligence research agency, which is based in San Francisco. If the OpenAI name sounds familiar but you can't quite place why, it's probably because we've talked about it a couple of times before. With the help of fellow industry legends, Tesla's Elon Musk helped launch OpenAI last year with a major goal: to progress AI with the mindset that it will benefit all humankind. The integration of... There's an Apple parody that jokingly proclaims "Gold is best!" in reference to the gold colored iPhone handsets, but for Western Digital, gold really does represent the top of the line. WD Gold that is, a series of datacenter hard drives introduced in April that now boasts a brand new 10-terabyte capacity option (WD101KRYZ), Western Digital announced today. That's a 25 percent bump in capacity over the previous top option from the WD Gold line, an 8TB model (WD8002FRY2). And like that and the 6TB (WD600FRYZ) and 4TB (WD4002FYYZ) models comprising the WD Gold line, the new 10TB capacity HDD is... Read more...
At Microsoft's Worldwide Partner Conference (WPC) held in Toronto this week, the company's Vice President of the Windows and Devices Group, Yusuf Mehdi, revealed important details about the enterprise editions of its Windows 10 OS. Microsoft has split its Windows 10 Enterprise edition into two different versions, with the "E3" version being the lesser of the two. The top-dog will be called "E5", and will include additional security features, including advanced threat protection with Windows Defender (which kind of sounds like a feature we'd all like). One of the biggest problems smaller companies... Read more...

There are two things that Samsung really wants: to be one of the first to deploy a city-wide IoT infrastructure, as well as make sure that IoT infrastructure is on its home turf, in South Korea. That will soon be happening, and it's sure to be one of the first of what will become many such roll-outs over time. For its first deployment, Samsung is going to be using a LoRaWAN-based network (Long-range Wide Area Network), which will utilize a 900MHz band. The first city to be affected by this will be Daegu, South Korea's fourth-largest city. While many reading this probably thought the first city... Read more...
NVIDIA today introduced a new graphics card option for its GRID virtual desktop platform. It's the Tesla M10 and it's intended to make it more affordable for businesses to deliver virtualized desktops to all of their employees through a subscription model that starts at just $2 per user, per month (when signing up with a 3-year plan). The pitch from NVIDIA is that business applications have grown beyond simple documents and spreadsheets where 2D acceleration was sufficient. Modern applications, including Outlook, Office 2016, web browsers, Adobe Photoshop, and even Windows 10 can all take advantage... Read more...
At a time when laptop makers are shunning big and bulky notebooks in favor of thin and light designs, Lenovo went a different direction with its ThinkPad P70, a mobile workstation brimming with high-end hardware for tackling rough and tumble tasks in the field. It's all about finding the right tool for the job, and just as a lumberjack wouldn't trade his gas-powered chainsaw for a Swiss Army knife just because he could fit in his pocket, there are certain computing tasks that require desktop-class performance. That's what the ThinkPad P70 aims to deliver. The ThinkPad P70 is one of the first mobile... Read more...
When iPhone or iPad sales start heading south, you can count on Apple to look for ways to further expand its reach. After iPad sales starting taking a turn for the worse, Apple inked an enterprise development deal with IBM. And now that both iPhone and iPad sales are down (but moreso the iPad), Apple is once again looking to boost its enterprise cred — this time with SAP. Apple hopes that its alliance with SAP will “revolutionize the mobile work experience for enterprise customers of all sizes.” The fruits of this partnership will include a new SAP HANA Cloud Platform SDK for iOS that will allow... When we hear about IoT, or Internet of Things, it often relates to products like smart clothing, accessories or even home automation. But IoT can also play a major role in the enterprise space, as Microsoft has just confirmed with its acquisition of an Italian company called Solair. In its blog post, Microsoft notes that Solair is well-established in the IoT space, having established itself involved in manufacturing, retail, food, and transportation. One of the things that no doubt stood out to Microsoft most about Solair is the company's appreciation for its Azure cloud platform, as all of its... Read more...
Artificial Intelligence is sort of the holy grail of computing, and while we may never reproduce the human brain or it's capabilities in their entirety in electronic form, the world's brightest minds are now capable of creating rather convincing systems that are beginning to learn more sophisticated concepts and even learn on their own. IBM is proving that with its constantly improving Watson cognitive computing technology, which one day might have us struggling to perceive the line between AI and organic intelligence. You might be surprised at the progress that's been made. In the early 1990s,... Read more...
Intel is officially launching a brand new series of Xeon processors today, the Xeon Processor E5 v4. Unlike mainstream desktop products, which feature Intel’s latest core technologies like the Skylake-based Core i7-6700K, mission-critical, big-iron parts like the Xeon E5 v4 series are more complex and go through much more qualification, and as such tend to leverage core technologies that have long been proven in the consumer space. The the Xeon Processor E5 v4 family, for example, is based on Broadwell, or more specifically Broadwell-EP. We’ve already got a plethora of Broadwell coverage up here... Read more...
To say that Microsoft's Surface Hub has had a bit of a rough start would be an understatement. Time and time again, just when we thought it was about to officially launch, Microsoft would pull up the reins announcing the wait would be a bit longer. But, no more. Surface Hub is here, and it's shipping. Microsoft's Surface Hub is designed primarily for the enterprise, with the goal of helping teams accomplish more collaboratively. This isn't just some marketing fluff; Microsoft itself has been using Surface Hub in house for the same purposes it's promoting. Brian Hall, Microsoft's GM of Devices Marketing... Read more...
