Surging demand for Samsung's new Galaxy S6 Edge has led the company to ramp up production of their new curved screen smartphone, with the early opening of their A3 production line. Though originally set to come online in June, the A3 plant — the third that the company now has in place for making OLED displays — will help Samsung to increase production of the Galaxy S6 Edge by 150%, from the current 2 million to 5 million units produced monthly.  Since its worldwide release on April 10th, the demand for Samsung's latest iterations of its flagship smartphone has exceeded even... Samsung yesterday announced three additions to their nascent curved display line, diverting attention from the looming official release next Friday of their two new Galaxy S6 smartphones. The new models, all featuring 1080p panels and priced significantly lower than the $1,199 SE790C Curved Monitor Samsung debuted in January at CES include the SE590C Curved Monitor (31.5-inches, 1920x1080 resolution, 3000R curvature, $599.99), the SE591C Curved Monitor (27-inches, 1920x1080 resolution, 4000R curvature, $399.99), and the SE510C Curved Monitor (available in both 23.6 and... We knew that the LG G Flex smartphone was coming to the U.S. sometime this quarter, but now we have a much clearer idea. You can preorder your own G Flex handset from AT&T, Sprint, or T-Mobile, and the device will be shipping in just a few days. AT&T’s website says that it will begin shipping the LG G Flex on February 4th. Sprint says that pre-orderers will get their phones in 2-5 business days starting today, which pegs delivery as early as February 3rd. (Presumably, that doesn’t mean you could get it by tomorrow.) It will be available in Sprint stores on the 7th. It’s... Read more...
This isn’t exactly what we have in mind when we were thinking of a flexible curved display, but LG’s G Flex curved smartphone does indeed bend, a little. In a video shot by The Verge at an event in Korea, you can see that when a person presses down--rather hard, it seems--on the curved back of the device, it flattens out and then returns to its original shape. It also works when flipped over and the person presses down on the upturned top and bottom of the smartphone. (The Samsung Galaxy Round can’t perform such a feat.) Although we wouldn’t call this flexibility an especially... Read more...
It appears that’s a “yes” on Samsung beating LG to market with a curved-display smartphone. Samsung announced that the Samsung Galaxy ROUND smartphone is available, and the 5.7-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display is indeed delicately concave. Before you get excited, here’s the bad news: It’s only available in Korea, at least for now. We know, we know. Buck up. Here’s what’s under the hood: There’s a quad-core 2.3GHz MSM 8974 Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 (Krait) SoC, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of onboard storage, and a 13MP autofocus (with flash) rear and 2MP...
