Last October AMD debuted its Never Settle game bundles, and the company is rolling full steam ahead with more. The latest is a doozy: Starting today, if you buy any AMD Radeon R9 Series card (wouldn’t you know it, we have a review of one right here), you can get a gratis copy of Battlefield 4. AMD says that the title is optimized for its Graphics Core Next technology, and an upcoming patch to bring the Mantle API will give the game’s Frostbite 3 engine a boost. The company is also extending the Never Settle Forever bundle to the AMD Radeon R7 260X, placing it on the Radeon Rewards Silver... Read more...
Live in Silicon Valley or the surrounding area? Looking to meet a lot of new gamers in a setting that's both clean and professional? Looks like AMD has you covered. The company has just announced a Fan Day Celebration, which translates to a pretty great part for gamers that'll go down on November 13th in San Jose, California. According to AMD, it'll be a day packed with tournaments, contests, and raffles, with over $50,000 in gear to be given away. Better still, AMD will be giving 16 teams of five players the opportunity to play in the world’s first Battlefield 4 tournament, with the winning... Read more...
The latest Battlefield 4 game trailer from EA is here, and this one is a single-player story trailer that gives you a taste of the sort of character arc you can expect from the game. The trailer starts out with the evacuation of American VIPs from Shangai and--wouldn’t you know it--things get a little crazy on the way out. (WARNING: Some NSFW language.) We’ve been impressed so far with the videos we’ve seen of the game, and this one is no exception. It looks like there’s a good bit of drama and intriguing characters in the single-player story to go along with the killer... Read more...
The hits have been coming (and coming, and coming) from AMD’s Hawaiian press event today, and here’s one more.  AMD has also announced Mantle, a “low-level high-performance console-style” graphics API for the PC. Mantle will ostensibly allow developers to work “closer to the metal”, like they do with console GPUs. And wouldn’t you know it--it’s AMD GPUs that will be powering ALL next generation consoles, so the whole concept flows out of AMD’s experience with both consoles and PCs. AMD’s angle is that PC graphics present several challenges... Read more...
We love a good gameplay trailer around here, and the latest one from EA showing off Battlefield 4’s multiplayer play looks fantastic. We already saw a lengthy (17 minutes) demo earlier this year that gave us a look at the fluid and detailed visuals as well as the storyline with a mix of scripted scenes and actual gameplay, and this latest video just adds to the fun. Judging from the clip, you’ll be able to fight with automatic weapons, perform hand-to-hand combat, and use a variety of land, sea, and air vehicles to take on your opponents. You can go solo in multiplayer mode, or you... Read more...
Sure, Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare, which was built on the Frostbite 3 game engine, looks great, but it’s nothing compared to the Frostbite 3 engine-equipped Battlefield 4. In a YouTube video, gamemaker DICE and Frostbite developers discuss the breath-taking features of the game engine with scenes from Battlefield 4, and it’s the kind of thing that makes you want to put your chin in your hands, sigh dreamily, and watch in awe. In an effort to offer realism and believability, the Frostbite 3 engine handles features such as trees swaying in the breeze; the game engine produces “weather”,... Read more...
Battlefield 4 isn’t going to be available until this fall, but EA is throwing us a bone (or does this count as teasing?) by posting a 17-minute video of the game’s “Fishing in Baku” mission. There’s a healthy mix of scripted scenes and more open gameplay, but in both cases the action moves very quickly. The visuals are smooth and stunning, particularly when it comes to the body movements of you and your team and down to small details like leaves rusting as you run past them and the position and glare of the sun as you move. There are spectacular crashes and lots of... Read more...
