If you’re running Android 4.3 or earlier, you’re pretty much out of luck when it comes to a baked-in defense against a WebView vulnerability that was discovered earlier this month by security analyst Tod Beardsley. The vulnerability leaves millions of users open to attack from hackers that choose to exploit the security hole. For those that don’t already know, WebView is a core component of the Android operating system that renders web pages. The good news is that the version of WebView included in Android 4.4 KitKat and Android 5.0 Lollipop is based on Chromium and is not affected by the vulnerability.... Read more...
Fact - bears eat beets. Bears, beets, Battlestar Galactica. Another fact - less than 2 percent of people who own an Android device are running the latest version, Android 4.4 KitKat. That figure will go up over time, and will rise rather quickly once Samsung puts into motion its plan to upgrade several Galaxy devices to the latest and greatest version of Google's open source operating system. Samsung sent us an email this morning confirming plans to roll out KitKat for several smartphone and tablet devices in the U.S. Those devices include the Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy Note II, Galaxy S4, Galaxy S4... The Nexus 5 may be first out the door with the delicious new build, but it's only a matter of time before other handsets receive the update as well. Given that Google purchased Motorola's mobile business, you would think the company's handsets would also be getting the KitKat treatment, and for the most part, you'd be right. One of the most popular Motorola devices, the Moto X manufactured right here in the good ol' U. S. of A. (in the state of Texas), will definitely... Read more...
Before you go out trick or treating tonight, Google has a Halloween treat of its own to announce. At long last, the much anticipated Nexus 5 smartphone built by LG is finally available in Google Play, and with it comes the delicious new build of Google's open source operating system, Android 4.4 KitKat. In fact, the Nexus 5 is the first device to unwrap KitKat. You can grab the Nexus 5 in either white or black, and in 16GB ($349) or 32GB ($399) capacities. All four models are available to purchase now (unlocked and off contract for T-Mobile or Sprint) and are scheduled to leave the warehouse by... Read more...
