Compaq Presario V4000

1 thumbs up

Now that we've got some Dell, IBM, and HP notebook reviews under our belt, we are going to depart from the business oriented line of machines we've already looked at, and take some time to go over Compaq's new Presario V4000. After the acquisition by Hewlett Packard, Compaq fully devoted its Presario notebook designs towards the consumer segment, while HP offers both consumer and business notebooks. In that sense, there is some redundancy considering the overlap in the consumer market, but between the two brand names, overall, this makes for a wider selection of notebooks.

Measuring in at 14.1" x 10.2" x 1.67" and with a weight starting at 6.45 pounds (our V4000 sample weighed in just under 7.0 lbs.), the Compaq Presario V4000 is the third smallest [and largest] notebook from Compaq. Though, that doesn't say much since Compaq currently only has five notebook models available. Considering the largest and smallest notebooks from Compaq come in at 1.99" thin and 9.3 lbs or 1.53" and 5.2 lbs, respectively, there is a fairly wide spectrum of difference between the notebooks. While, there are really no pure thin and lights or ultraportables, the closest thing to a thin and light would arguably be the M2000. After that notebooks like the V4000 and V2000 are categorized as power thin notebooks or lightweight desktop replacements. The X6000 and R4000 round up the Compaq line as desktop replacements that favor designs without the heavier restrictions of the rest.
