iPad Thieves Strip Man's Finger While Stealing New Apple Tablet

Gross. Just gross. And depressing. Those feelings aren't typically associated with new tablet PCs, and definitely not with new Apple products. But each time a new, hot product hits the market, some level of crime usually surrounds it. A few years back, someone actually implemented a drive-by shooting in order to secure a PlayStation 3. People were robbed blind on eBay after the Wii launch. And now, a Denver-area man is missing most of his pinky finger thanks to two knuckleheads who'd rather steal an iPad than earn their keep and buy one.

According to various reports out of Colorado, a 59-year old male went to a nearby Apple store in order to procure an iPad for a co-worker. Someone he knew in Canada had just been promoted, and he was sent out to purchase an iPad as a congragulatory gift. The man, Bill Jordan, didn't even really know much about the iPad itself. He was quoted as saying that he "didn't even know what it was," simply thinking it was just the next hot "toy." He definitely didn't realize that people would go to great lengths in order to get one.

After purchasing the device, he wrapped the cords that stick out of Apple's typical sales bags around his hand as he was leaving. He didn't think twice about it. But on his way out, two criminals came up behind him, with one yanking hard on the bag in an attempt to steal the iPad and make a break for it. Unfortunately, the hard yank also resulted in the skin around his pinky being ripped off, leaving his hand gushing blood and the man himself in an incredible amount of pain.

He was taken away and treated for his injuries, but he's still in rough shape as you can see in the image above. In an interview, the victim had this to say: "I never hear it coming, I never see it coming. I just remember this kid pulling and pulling and pulling and it got caught?took the flesh right off, the tendons and everything. There was nothing but bone. It didn't dawn on me (that) this is a new product that's in demand and somebody would go to this length to get something like this. To destroy someone's hand. Who knows how far they would have gone if it didn't come off my hand?"

Directing one quote to the thives who injured him: "I hope you understand what you've done to my life and my family's life for a simple piece of apparatus that'll be junk in a couple of years."

Law enforcement officials are now looking at surveilliance footage in hopes of locating the crooks and service justice, but there's little doubt that Mr. Jordan's hand will never fully be the same.

Wow thats just sad, the ipad is not THAT nice to be stealing it from people and ripping their fingers off. Guess uneducated people would do anything for things that others say is cool... Hope that man's pinky gets wells soon and the stupid criminal arrested for something this stupid. For just 1 ipad he might server alot of prision time!

I hope the crooks get what's coming to them.

The sad thing is, I'll be surprised if Apple doesn't find themselves on the end of a civil suit, where they end up having to pay a few million dollars and redesign their bags to be break-away and easier for thieves to snatch.

That's really sad, they stole not only his iPad, but his pinky as well. REALLY hope the thief gets what's coming to him.

I will refrain from saying what I would have done as this is not the forum for this type of chatter, but this makes me sick!!! Last time I heard of something like this was over a pair of Air Jordans. I do believe in Karma!!!!!!

Hope that man heals up ok although he did lose a finger.

Just like the 22" rims, the Jordan's, and all other things that people do not want to work for, this is what we get! Society today rewards this type of behavior, because if you get caught you might go to jail get some tattoos, then make a rap album or join a gang and then you are cool? In every aspect people are finding it easier to steal than actually work for something and learn for themselves.

There are no more consequences against this type of behavior. Even if he was armed and was allowed to defend himself. Then for the next twenty years he would spend on legal fees and prosecutions from the thief's family, because their baby didn't do anything wrong. This is why we have overcrowding in the jails. Then again many others are doing the exact same things only legally by changing the same laws.

animatortom: "Society today rewards this type of behavior"

Society doesn't reward behavior like this. Prison is still the same old prison it has always been. It's just that some crooks are too stupid to realize that prison IS punishment. They get three squares a day and plenty of time to work out on free Gym equipment. They get free education classes and other fringe benefits too.

The creeps that did this need a good whuppin' before they make it to jail. His finger was amputated because of what they did, so let's take theirs too.

Yeah, I guess I used the wrong word on that one! Instead of Rewards, I should have used exemplifies!

We see it in our video games, music and TV almost every day aimed towards our youth, because it makes them money and garners votes. I am sure you are the same as me when viewing something like Scarface. Appreciate the film making, yet know the reality is harsh! Yet look at how most kids emulate that behaviour and think "its cool". They even had elementary school students doing it as a play!

Just like you said with all the perks and benefits of prison today. The average taxpayer cost for one inmate is 37,000 dollars. We now have more people in our prisons and more people out of work. When those people out of work should be making 35K and a chance for a decent life because they want to do right and behave.  Instead we tech our kids to act like GTA, Jackass, or pimp my cribs and life is cool. IF you can do something as simple as make a rhymes and you can get some dimes. Instead of learning about people like Max Planck, Gordon Copper, or Antonio Vivaldi, They emulate Tupac, Che and Biggy then if you go to jail, you will get some cool tattoos and some street cred!

This guy shouldn't loose a finger, he should have his hand cut off. The one that he uses as his interim girlfriend:P

I don't think his pinky will be the same but that's sad when an attempted theft tears off somebodies pinky.

Just makes those thieves more deserving of their punishment.

Very sad news indeed.

That's one reason I try to have a backpack or something with me that I can stuff something into - or at the very least, something other than an Apple/Best Buy/tech store bag. It may not prevent such a situation from happening 100%, but it doesn't scream "Hey look! Shiny new iPad inside" either.

Hope they catch the iDiots responsible for this... and that justice is served properly for once.

I doubt they were trying to rip his finger off. Maybe the cops will accidentally rip something of theirs off when they catch em.

Man, if they try that on a jump vet (specially one with a concealed weapons permit) it would have been ugly. I don't deal well with crowds or people I don't know behind me. Stuff like this is crazy and people who do it should have the pain they inflicted dealt back to them.
