iOS 5.0.1 Update Knocks Out Battery Life Woes, Adds iPad Gestures

Developers have access to a new beta version of iOS 5 -- version 5.0.1 -- that's supposed to fix battery life issues reportedly plaguing some iPhone and iPod touch users who installed Apple's latest and greatest mobile OS. iPhone 4S owners have been particularly vocal in voicing concerns that their shiny new smartphone is giving up the ghost well before their previous iPhone device used to, even though their usage habits are the same (we haven't run into this issue ourselves). What gives?

According to the release notes, Apple discovered and fixed a bug affecting battery life. What exactly that bug is, Apple didn't elaborate, but the Cupertino company did outline other changes included in iOS 5.0.1.They include:
  • Adds Multitasking Gestures for original iPad
  • Resolves bugs with Documents in the Cloud
  • Improves voice recognition for Australian users using dictation
  • Contains security improvements

Look for iOS 5.0.1 to be available to the general public in the next week or so.

"I guess Siri has a lot to do with it, its has proven to be more than just a gimmick."

^I don't think Siri would be the reason because wasn't Siri only on the iPhone 4s? If IPods were also experiencing the bugs then it couldn't be Siri.

Anyway I still haven't bitten the bullet and updated my iPad2 but I think I will with this one, once I'm well enough to be out of bed for the length of time it will take lol.

"R0FL, it was fan boy joke. The battery problem is actually more of a complaint with 4S users, but the problem doe's exist on the other idevices as well. Its good that Apple has acted quickly."
