ZOTAC Announces World's First ION Upgrade Kit

ZOTAC is best known for a couple of things: intense graphics card, and powerful small form factor PCs. Today, the company is touching on both of its core values with the introduction of the world's first ION Upgrade Kits. This is a huge boon for anyone looking to get a little more horsepower behind their existing shell.

The ION Upgrade Kit features a ZOTAC small form factor motherboard and ZOTAC ION (powered by NVIDIA, obviously) graphics card; all you need is an enclosure that'll hold it all. The solution ships with 512MB of DDR3 memory, and of course it'll handle HD content with no problems. There's HDMI 1.3a compatibility, format support for a variety of codecs and a price that's TDB.

This is sweet. But wait, is this a complete internal overhaul, or just an add-on for people who want another pillar?

Either way I find the simplicity and size of the design pretty neat. The graphics aren't bad either, especially with the inclusion of the 48-bit color depth.

Upgrade Kits to deliver plenty of performance sufficient for demanding tasks such as image and video processing....enhance the quality of videos and other tasks quickly with ease using the ION graphics processor.

I guess that answers my previous question. But I wonder just how efficient the system is at those "demanding tasks." For me, a demanding task is rendering 1080p video in high resolutions. I guess with this add on kit, the extra graphics processing power gives the computer an overall systems boost.

The only downside I see so far is the Dx10.1 under the specs.
