XP SP3 Coming 4/21?

It's Tax Day, and we could hardly be blamed for last-minute filing and not paying attention to the news.  However, rumor has it that 4/21 is the day: XP SP3 Release Day, that is.

Today, however, Neowin was able to get the release schedule for the Release to Manufacturer (RTM) version of Windows XP SP3. According to Neowin, OEMs, Volume License customers, Windows Connect users and MSDN/TechNet subscribers will have access to SP3 on April 21. The public will have to wait until April 29 to access SP3 via Windows Update and Microsoft's Download Center.

Microsoft will not push SP3 via Automatic Updates until June 10 which should give IT managers enough time to work with the service pack should things go awry.

We'll believe it when we see it.  As readers well know, many, many users still have XP running on systems, and businesses have been reluctant to upgrade as well.  The sooner SP3 comes out, the better, for all concerned (except perhaps Microsoft, who still wants us all on Vista).

Good news, indeed. I have been anxiously awaiting SP3. Hopefully its supposed performance increase will be apparent on my system.

As usual I'll play the waiting game, but if it turns out to be a good upgrade I may use it this summer.

No XP for me anymore since my desktop crapped out on me -- otherwise I might be following the situation a little bit more. Obviously BBY customers will be very interested in this however so maybe I should beef up a little bit -- any performance benchies yet? (Yes ice91785 is lazy -- he'll google it later if there is no response :p)

This is definitely good news for the many who are still using XP. I would have been excited about this had I not just taken the plunge and bought Vista 64-bit for my new rig. I wonder what improvements SP3 will bring to XP?

Most of the improvements are geared toward the corporate world. NAC - Network Access Control is the big one.

Hope it is worth the upgrade!
