Good afternoon guys and gals. Do you ever get excited over old hardware? I ordered a Radeon 9600 Pro the other day for a friend, and for some reason, I'm excited just to play around with it. Maybe it's because I've never had the opportunity to examine one before, or maybe it's because I know he wants it overclocked :) Anyway, here's your first dose of news for the new week.
"Looking at the overall package available here, it's hard to fault Hitech's Type R offerings - A fantastic bundle coupled with a very nice looking and relatively lightweight power supply, all for a reasonable price. What is even nicer to see is the subtle yet understandable variety in the three packages we've seen here - For those who want a case full of LEDs, the red bundle offers both a red LED equipped PSU and fan."
"DFI have also reported to us that you do not need the additional PCB bridge, which NVIDIA claims to pump 1GB/s throughput, apparently this can be run via the board. We are dubious about this, but we are interested in seeing the performance hit on this change. We know that the PCI-E bus is capable of running high bandwidth graphics (Alienwares original ALX video array technology)."
"The case is also water-cooling ready with pre-assemble mounting, making it possible to fit all Thermaltake liquid cooling system or any other specific brands of liquid cooling. In addition, the Shark also features easy access to two USB 2.0 ports, one IEEE 1394 port and two audio jacks, all are conveniently located on the side of the chassis. Security features include front door lock and side panel lock."
"While the s754 platform might seem to lose its appeal with cheap s939 based A64 processors around the corner, the s754 platform is still good for a budget friendly overclocking thrill with just a minor performance loss compared to the newer s939 platform. The recent release of the some excellent OC boards have spiced up the s754 world, making the choice between going for s754 board now or to waiting for a good s939 setup even harder."
