Windows Blue Officially Windows 8.1, Coming As Free Update Via MS App Store

After much speculation and a slew of rumors surrounding the update to Windows 8, Microsoft's Tami Reller told Reuters that it’s official: the update, which had been codenamed “Windows Blue”, will be called “Windows 8.1”.

Windows 8.1 is coming later this year, with a preview coming at Microsoft’s BUILD conference in late June, and it will be available as a free update to Windows 8 and Windows RT via the app store.

Windows 8.1

Windows 8 has suffered through a fairly lackluster debut, with plenty of critics voicing their opinions, and even for those who do like the new OS, there’s little debate that Windows 8 could use a shot in the arm. What exactly Blue--er, Windows 8.1 will entail remains a mystery, we believe that if nothing else, Microsoft will bring back the Start button.
