Windows 7 Release Date Update

The successor to Windows Vista, dubbed Windows 7, seems to have been slated for a release someplace in 2010:

In an email, a Microsoft spokesman, confirmed that 2010 was the correct Windows 7 date -- three years after the consumer Vista release.  He stated, "We are currently in the planning stages for Windows 7 and development is scoped to three years from Windows Vista Consumer GA. The specific release date will be determined once the company meets its quality bar for release."

Special partners have allegedly received Milestone 1 (M1) editions of the next-generation OS.  While there aren't any specific features we can confirm at this time, rumors point to an integrated voice recognition system and a multi-touch-esque technology.

(Hmm...so maybe I'll just skip Vista ME altogether and wait for Windows 7. )

I think that is a conservative estimate at best. They have a lot of work to do to really improve the OS for next round.

Vista is very stable on my system, but doesn't Vista already have a voice recognition software? I used it before, so what's so new about that. lol :)

It would appear that Microsoft has decided to expedite the release of Windows 7 rather than salvage the already tarnished reputation of Vista. Though Windows 7 will just be what Vista should have been from the start. Sounds like Vista was just another way for Microsoft to make a little extra cash. Vista is more like a beta version of 7.

wonder what it will take to run it

I would imagine any system capable of running Vista will have no trouble running Windows 7.
