Western Digital Boosts My DVR Expander Capacity

Just a day after TiVo and Amazon announced HD video downloads, Western Digital is adding a 1TB storage option to its My DVR Expander so you can store all of those movies and TV shows you’ll be downloading. By attaching a My DVR Expander to your TiVo, you can instantly and seamlessly expand your TiVo’s recording capacity.

TiVo has verified the My DVR Expander to be compatible with TiVo Series3 and TiVo HD DVRs. With the new 1TB drive option, the My DVR Expander can store up to 140 hours of high-definition television programming or up to 600 hours of standard definition content. The My DVR Expander uses an eSATA connection and is “designed for the living room,” meaning this drive stays cool in an entertainment center, runs quietly, and uses a soft amber LED indicator.

"It is a great time to be a TiVo user because of the countless entertainment options available with just a click of the TiVo remote," said Andrew Morrison, director of Platform Product Marketing, TiVo Inc. "In this universe of unlimited content, WD is helping save avid TiVo users from ever having to make the painful decision of choosing one show over another, something we know will be well received in the TiVo community. And the My DVR Expander fits in with the TiVo philosophy perfectly as it is reliable, easy to use, and makes the experience of HD television even better."

Western Digital’s 1TB My DVR Expander sells for $199.99. In addition to TiVo compatibility, the My DVR Expander has also been tested for compatibility with Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300 Series DVRs 8300, 8300 HD, 8300 MR, and 8300 HD-MR Digital Video Recorders.
