Valve's Steam Platform Hits 65 Million Users, 3,000+ Game Titles

Well, here's some fantastic news for PC gaming: The userbase on Valve's Steam platform increased a staggering 30% over the past 12 months, putting the current total of users at 65 million. Further, Valve notes that its service now offers over 3,000 games, across Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux.

As a dedicated PC gamer, this kind of news excites me, and I hope to see the trend continue. It's clear that Valve takes the PC as a gaming platform more seriously than most others out there, and its commitment to the three main OSes proves that.

Over the past couple of years, Valve has worked hard to make sure that Steam is as compelling as can be, adding the TV-bound Big Picture mode, Steam Trading Cards for those who care about leveling-up on the service, Family Sharing (which remains in beta as of the time of writing), and recently, Early Access. Then of course there are recent developments regarding SteamOS, Steam Machines (a truly hilarious name) and even a Steam gamepad.

Valve has also proven itself to be a haven for indie developers, with a slew of new titles from smaller developers released each and every week. At the rate Steam has been publishing games lately, I'd expect to see 4,000 games total offered on the service this time next year.

PC gaming is dead? Nope, I think this is the calm before the storm.

I might let off some "steam" and download a game

Not a bad idea! If you're a fan of open-world games, I am partial to Sleeping Dogs. The main game and its zombie DLC are quite good.

It's a good time to do so - Halloween sale going on right now.
