Tablets Are Built for 'Normal People' - Wozniak

Apple's latest iPad 2 ad states that Apple wants technology to get out of the way of the "magic" that devices can provide, and Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak echoed that during a keynote session at Storage Networking World in Santa Clara, California on Monday.
"The tablet is not necessarily for the people in this room. It's for the normal people in the world.

"I think Steve Jobs had that intention from the day we started Apple, but it was just hard to get there, because we had to go through a lot of steps where you connected to things, and [eventually] computers grew up to where they could do ... normal consumer appliance things."
This is the same message that Apple sent to consumers in its latest iPad 2 ad. The ad showed the iPad 2 being put through a number of "paces." The ad said:
This is what we believe: technology alone is not enough. Faster, thinner, lighter: those are all good things.

But when technology gets out of the way, everything becomes more delightful, even magical. That's when you leap forward. That's when you end up with something ... like this.

iPad 2.
The ad is embededded below.

But it brings up a point many have made, that iDevices in general are built to be usable by those least among us in terms of techie-ness. Meanwhile, Android devices seem better built for those who have at least a little geek in them.

That possibly explains why we've seen more than a few iPad toting grandmas, and none carrying around the Motorola Xoom.

I agree with his mentality, and it is obviously true. My only gripe is it seems the price tag is up there for what they offer, but iPad ones will drop soon enough.

Not that'd i'd buy one, no tablet has enough for the geek in me.

In other words.... "We create an image that people want to have, we know they are too stupid to actually understand what the specs of the tablet are. There fore the people who are in the "know", wont buy our product because it is technically inferior to other products. But "Normal" people just want the image of owing a Ipad, we call these people the Isheep..."

There I translated it from its original format to what was really being said. :D

I also love this, "Meanwhile, Android devices seem better built for those who have at least a little geek in them."

This is and is not true of Apple in general, and while these things should be for every person, and it is even preached by some of Apples founders it is not true of Apple. It has not been true of them for quite some time really. The position they took in the IIE era was this, but after there market at that time started crumbling around them it became something else defensively. That is where the "top Notch" mentality came in, where before that it was an every person device. Because of this you now have the "coolest" factor as part of Apple in general.
