T-Mobile Not Getting iPhone Anytime Soon

T-Mobile Not Getting iPhone Anytime Soon

This one is about as cut and dry as they come: there's still no T-Mobile iPhone around the corner. Over the weekend, AT&T announced their intentions to acquire T-Mobile USA for $39 billion, and immediately, some began to wonder about the obvious: would this mean that the iPhone would have yet another new home? Not so fast. A Q&A form that was put up shortly after the news broken confirmed as much, with this being the standout quote:

"T-Mobile USA remains an independent company. The acquisition is expected to be completed in approximately 12 months. We do not offer the iPhone. We offer cutting edge devices like the Samsung Galaxy S 4G and coming soon our new Sidekick 4G."

It's really interesting that T-Mobile decided to call out the iPhone. It's as if they knew the question would be coming. So, in short, you won't be able to buy an iPhone for T-Mobile's network anytime soon, but that's just for now. What about the iPhone 5? If it's LTE-enabled, get ready for the questions to begin swirling all over again...

This is like all the corporate acquisitions. First the two companies merge and all the execs say, were just doing this for marketing/financial reasons, nothing is going to change .... give it a few months and itll be T-Mobile then At&t TMobile then At&t Mobile then itll just be plain ole At&t in a year or so. Same thing is going to happen with there line of products so yes the Iphone 5 will be on T-Mobile err At&t ....

AT&T-Mobile. Press releases make me sad, seems like a weak excuse to keep more money directly in ATT's hands.

Why would Tmobile get the iPhone? ATT is buying tmobile basically for the spectrum. Its an easy way to improve its towers and kill the competition. If the FCC lets this go through, they will sign the death warrant for competition in the US wireless market. Tmobile will get the iphone, when ATT finishes eating it whole.

I agree with you and as a T-Mobile customer I am not looking forward to my monthly bill doubling for the same service.

I doubt there will be a T-Mobile in 3 years.

There could be a tmobile in the next few years if someone buys it and nows how to manage it. DT screwed everything up with Tmobile, thats why they are selling it. I mean look at it, DT is getting 14% stock in ATT. They will still make money from the US anndddd get a bunch of money to put into there network overseas.

compte i don't see AT&T selling tmobile out in the future, they need the towers, if they do sell it out... it might just be the name they sell... lol

Great T-Mobile selection of phones remains to be junk...

I agree with Christopher. I think At& will take the towers and frequencies and dump it.

How do you quote something that isn't even in the Q&A? If you're going to paraphrase it, at least link back to the source so people can see what it said, for themselves. They called out the iphone because it was part of the Q&A and what you quoted, is incorrect. The Q&A is pasted below...without your little twist.

"Is T-Mobile USA getting the iPhone?

T-Mobile USA remains an independent company, as the acquisition is expected to be completed in approximately 12 months. We’ll continue to offer cutting-edge 4G devices like the Samsung Galaxy S 4G, as well as the new Sidekick 4G, the T-Mobile G2x and the G-Slate tablet coming later this spring."
