Super Talent Taps TeraDrive SSD with 2nd Generation SandForce Chip

If you're thinking about picking up a solid state drive to make your system scream, you'd be silly to pull the trigger before SSDs built around next generation controllers start shipping. One of the more anticipated upgrades is from SandForce, whose SF-2000 series chipsets you'll soon find on a number of shipping SSDs, including Super Talent's upcoming TeraDrive CT3.


Sporting SandForce's SF-2200 controller, the upgraded TeraDrive features a SATA 6Gb/s interface and much faster read and write speeds. Super Talent hasn't disclosed exact numbers yet, but from what we know of SandForce's 2nd generation controller, expect to see both hover around the 500MB/s mark, or about double what today's SSDs are capable of.

Look for the new drives to ship in the second quarter of 2011 with pricing yet to be announced.
