Sprint Lets Users Remove Bloatware

In many smartphone reviews here at HotHardware, we've said we wish carriers would leave bloatware off of the phones or, at the very least, allow users to uninstall the bloatware. It appears Sprint has heard our (and many others') request.

The new HTC EVO 3D from Sprint actually lets users uninstall many (but not all) of the programs that come preinstalled on the smartphone. What's even better is that this is not an oversight on the part of Sprint or HTC—it's intentional. In fact, it appears that Sprint intends to allow bloatware to be uninstalled from future Android devices as well.

We can only hope this becomes a trend and that other carriers follow suit. In the meantime, unless you have an EVO 3D from Sprint, you'll still need to root your phone if you want to remove bloatware.

I haven't looked for any bloatware on my phone and it runs fine for now. Wouldn't want to root my phone but might be necessary if I want total control over performance.

I would like this on T-Mobile as I have the Sensation which is the non 3D version of the Pyramid. 3D is kind of useless for me so far. Although I am sure it is cool to have I cannot see much point on a 4.3" display really. I also don't have a 3D television nor does anyone in my family being that the only thing I can see as being good would be sharing 3D videos of my daughters.

As far as it goes I don't really see much point in recording 720P 3d anyway either. I know being on T-Mobile I will most likely be part of the AT&T take over if or when it is allowed. Really though I will benefit from it as far as I see it as AT&T will have to give me a device comparable to my device when I bought it and therefore joined T-Mobile being as the Sensation is and was the top of the line when I bought into T-Mobile, or release me, and by then 4 core better GPU and Display phones will be available else where.

As for the EVO 3D yes it contains a bit more memory, but that memory also has to run a 2 layer 2 screen display such as the one on the EVO 3D.

Wish they would make this retroactive for their existing Android devices. There is not a ton of bloatware on my EVO 4G but there is certainly some of it that I would remove.

Every carrier should allow the removal of junk from any device or PC.

Hopefully others will follow.

One step closer to a more perfect world? :D lol. Props for sprint and anyone that takes the first step to things such as this!
