Earlier this week, a Sprint executive said the company would offer cloud services for all sizes of businesses. Sprint’s cloud service is expected to be available in the fourth quarter. As part of these cloud offerings, Paget Alves, head of Sprint business markets, said the company will sell its network infrastructure as a service available on demand. The wireless carrier will also offer software, security applications, and Internet hosting.
Currently, Verizon Wireless and AT&T offer similar services. Sprint’s services will rely on its own data center. This is different from Verizon Wireless who uses capacity from Terremark. AT&T partnered with several companies to offer its services.
In the past, telcos have sold a license for services for each individual employed by a business. Using the on-demand model, businesses will be able to adjust their Internet capacity and access to security applications as needed.
Sprint also wants to extend its Sprint ID program. This program bundles applications with a similar theme. Although Sprint hasn’t seen great interest in Sprint ID packs, Alves is optimistic.
