SlingPlayer Mobile For iPad Connects With Your Slingbox

Sling Media has become a massive force in the home entertainment realm. Their Slingbox units have allowed people to watch television all over the world, and with the explosion of smartphone adoption, consumers have been yearning to watching Slingbox material right on their phones and tablets. And since day one, the iPad looked like a great candidate to watch Slingbox material on. And now, it can finally do so.

Sling Media has just revealed that the SlingPlayer Mobile player for Apple iPad is now available, enabling Sling SOLO and PRO-HD owners to stream material from their television onto the tablet. The revamped program guide uses the iPad's intuitive native interface, and a recent channels feature puts a viewer's recent channels at his fingertips. When connected to a Slingbox SOLO or PRO-HD, the award-winning SlingPlayer Mobile software makes it easy to watch your home TV on your iPad. Now Slingbox owners with iPads can change channels, control their DVRs and watch their favorite shows anywhere they have an internet connection.

It works just like the SlingPlayer Mobile apps for phones, but it doesn't come cheap. It's available for $29.99, so you better ensure that you'll be watching a lot before biting that off.

The title is a little, um, self-evident.

This might actually act as a replacement for the now-missing Sling Catcher that disappeared when EchoStar bought the company. With a iPad base and component video out, this could work to hook your TV back up again. My family has a Sling Catcher hooked up at the Vacation house, so we don't have to use a second cable/satellite subscription.

The cable/sat companies don't want to make it easy to bypass them....
