Seagate And DensBits Team Up To Improve SSDs

We often ask, why can't the world just hug it out and get along. Just look at Apple vs. Samsung, if you need an example. Today, however, there's a story about just that. Seagate and DensBits have just announced a new strategic agreement for development of SSDs, for both the consumer and enterprise spaces. DensBits, if you haven't heard, is the inventor of the world's first Memory Modem. In conjunction with the agreement, Seagate has made an undisclosed equity investment in DensBits.

The two are teaming up in order to reduce costs and hopefully make the adoption of SSDs a bit more widespread. The Memory Modem controller technology will be integrated with Seagate's various storage technologies in order to power a slew of new devices, including 3 bits/cell 1Xnm Flash-based consumer SSDs, and 2 bits/cell 1Xnm Flash-based enterprise SSDs. Hard to say when we'll see any fruits of the labor, but surely the two will start combining thoughts in short order.
