Sapphire Technology Announces Radeon HD 7950 For Apple Mac Systems
How potent? According to Sapphire, the HD 7950 Mac Edition card increases gaming frame rates by over 200 percent, general performance by around 30 percent, and graphics intensive benchmarks by a whopping 300 percent "compared with the NV 8800GT commonly used in these machines."
The HD 7950 Mac Edition features 3GB of GDDR5 memory clocked at 5000MHz (effective) on a 384-bit bus, two mini DisplayPort outputs with support for up to 3840x2160 resolution per display under Mac OS X, HDMI 1.4a output, and a Dual-Link DVI-I port with HDCP (supports resolutions up to 2560x1600). It's core clockspeed is set at 800MHz, same as reference.
Sapphire says the card works with all Apple Mac Pro models from 2012 and later with an available PCI Express x16 slot (two six-pin power cables are required). It can also be used with a Windows rig via a dual firmware switch.
