SanDisk Soars To New Heights With 32GB MicroSDHC Card

MicroSDHC. It's a card within the popular Secure Digital family, but it's one you don't hear about very often. It's extremely small, smaller than a thumbnail, and they're generally quite expensive and only useful for cellphone owners. You see, most MicroSDHC card slots are found on mobile phones, where a small card is needed to boost storage capacity on a small device. Up until now, 16GB was the maximum size, and even those cost well over $100 at launch.

SanDisk is utilizing a newer 32nm X3 process technology in order to cram more memory than ever into the same MicroSDHC card format. The new ceiling sits at 32GB, a whopping amount that should satisfy all but the most avid of media collectors. This basically means that you can soon store up to 32GB of music, videos and images onto phones that support MicroSDHC (or any other MicroSDHC-supporting device, for that matter).

The card will be available starting today from SanDisk's website, with worldwide retail availability to follow next month. The new card comes with a 5 year limited warranty and carries a retail price of $199.99. We never said getting such a crazy amount of storage onto a flash card no bigger than your thumbnail would be inexpensive, but at least it's a possibility today. Couldn't say that with a straight face yesterday!

Wow,, I remember the days when 1 to 4GB's on a huge Hard drive was just a pipe dream!

These little things are just amazing. Now We have to wait for the crystal point storage units :)

This is great news. Now we just have to wait until the cost goes down. Sadly, most devices out there will only handle 8GiB cards.

3vi1:

The PNY one that you linked to is a SDHC, not a micro SDHC. If you are looking for an SDHC, why go with a PNY one? SanDisk has one that is cheaper.

Or one from Kingston that is cheaper and also offers a lifetime limited warranty

The iphone should have external storage that supports a microSD or something as some may want more storage or maybe just want to be able to just save some files in their phone :). Back when the first iphone came out i thought it did... :) lol

Whats wrong with SDHC PNY besides the price difference there? I do mostly use sandisk for my memory cards as i just well... like them more :P

When 3vi1 said if the PNY one was any better, it sounded like he was asking if the PNY one was any better than the new SanDisk 32gb micro SDHC. But one is an SDHC card and the other is a micro SDHC. From experience, people generally don't compare between the two different sizes. Then again, 3vi1 could have a device that can support both.

I haven't owned a PNY product, but I do hear a lot of people advise against owning one. Despite that, the SanDisk one is cheaper and can hit higher speeds.

I knew the first part where he was referring to the microSDHC and the SDHC

I was just wondering about the "Why do with a PNY one" part And since you answered it what problem does PNY have with their cards? i would like to know so i don't buy them in the future :)

I just hear that their quality isn't that great. But that is just what I hear at work.

It is really up to you. I've seen that they generally have slightly lower prices on their stuff like graphics cards. And at least according to Newegg, the ratings seem fine.
