Samsung Ships $400 Galaxy Note 8.0 To U.S. On April 11

It's here: the tablet meant to slot right in between your existing 10" slate and that portable 7" slate that you can tote around with a single hand. It's the Galaxy Note 8.0, and it's finally coming to U.S. shores. Starting April 11, U.S. buyers will be able to snag a Note 8.0 from Best Buy, Newegg, Amazon, Staples and a host of other retailers. It's equipped with an S Pen, just like the Note II, and ships with Multi Windows support as well. The Galaxy Note 8.0 will also be the first product to feature Samsung WatchON, a new search and recommendation service that alleviates the chore of channel surfing and makes finding TV shows and ondemand video content faster and easier.

With the built-in IR blaster, the Galaxy Note 8.0 acts as a universal remote, and while the U.S. version won't ship with a cellular voice radio, some of the other specifications include: an 8" WXGA (1280x800) display, 1.6GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, Wi-Fi, a 4,600mAh battery, 16GB of internal memory, a microSD expansion slot, 1 month free of unlimited music streaming in Samsung's Music Hub, and a $25 Play store credit.

It'll ship in white for $399.99, with a slew of accessories to follow.

I thought the multi-windows thing for the Note II would be cool but with an 8" tablet it would become truly useful. Glad to see Samsung doing new things with both phones and tablets. That and the price at $400 is not terrible. I was expecting something in the $600 range.

It sounds good... I would much prefer this over a useless iPad mini. It sounds like someone can get this to control their entertainment/TV center similar to a nexus7 on the google fiber network which is cool. Does this have NFC or .11ac wifi? 2 big factors for me for a device meant for home with no cellular voice radio.

I went looking around for specs and didnt see anything about the wireless but I would assume that it is atleast N wireless and has NFC. Who knows though.

it definitely has .11N which would be sad if they didn't go with at least dual-band N, and seeing as the S4 has .11ac I would expect this would too and would make it stand out against other tablets. Granted very few people have AC routers but I am one of those few and love my Asus router but I am sad that I don't have a single device yet that uses the standard.

That's also what I figured. Samsung is very good about even different models that they try to keep the features very close to each other and if the believe this will be money maker then im sure it will resemble the S4 with those specs. I am curious to see this one though.
