Samsung Set To Ship World's First 3D LED HDTV, Loads More 3D Gear

It's hard to believe that just over a year ago, we began to hear rumors that 3D films would be coming to the cinema. Now, every Dreamworks Animation picture ever will be made for 3D, and almost every major blockbuster (Avatar, Alice in Wonderland, etc.) that hits the silver screen has a 3D couterpart for those who want additional depth (and additional fees). At CES, most every major TV maker was out promoting their 3D HDTVs, which meant that it was only another matter of time before the 3D revolution swept the living room. And just a few months later, that revolution is set to begin.

Today in New York City, Samsung proudly announced the availability of the "broadest 3D product lineup," which includes the world's first 3D LED TV and a 3D LCD/plasma. That's on top of a 3D Blu-ray player and home theater system, and in case you were worried about getting content, Samsung also announced a partnership with Dreamworks to include Shrek in 3D.

The 3D Starter Kit (also new today) will provide those who purchase a 3D Samsung HDTV and 3D Blu-ray player or HT system with two pairs of Samsung active-shutter glasses and the 3D title of Monsters vs. Aliens. Starting soon, Samsung will begin to ship their 3D TV lineup, which includes the LCD 7000/8000/9000 series LCD, LCD 750 series and Plasma 7000/8000 series. Later this month, the 3D-capable 46" and 55" LCD C7000 sets will ship, with the rest coming in the next several months. Pricing and release information on all the new 3D gear is below.

Samsung Electronics America Inc., a market leader and award-winning innovator in consumer electronics, today announced the U.S. availability and pricing of its ground breaking 2010 lineup of Blu-ray players, beginning at $179.99. As announced at CES, the BD-C6900, winner of the 2010 CES Best of Innovations Award, leads the lineup, featuring built-in 3D playback. For design and performance-conscience consumers, the BD-C7500 is the slimmest Blu-ray player to date, with a nature-inspired, contemporary form factor. Meanwhile, the BD-C6500 offers both performance and speed with faster disc load and boot up times, while the entry-level BD-C5500 features an eco-design.  Samsung’s Blu-ray lineup will be on public display at the Samsung Experience, located at The Time Warner Center in New York City beginning March 9, 2010.
