Sad Day for Sennheiser, Founder Passes Away Shortly After 98th Birthday

You know Sennheiser as the German maker of high end audio devices, perhaps most notable for the company's line of top notch earphones and headsets. It's the name that inevitably comes up whenever someone asks for recommendations for headphones, which is largely the result of Prof. Dr. Fritz Sennheiser's audio expertise and ability to run a business, giving his developers the creative and technical leeway to do what they do best.

May Fritz now rest in peace. The professor, who was born on May 9, 1912, passed away on Monday evening, the Sennheiser company announced today. He had just turned 98 years old and is survived by his son, Prof. Dr. sc. techn. Jörg Sennheiser, who took over the company in 1982. The Sennheiser company was founded back in 1945 and now employs about 2,100 people.

"The audio industry has lost a huge figure, not only in terms of his technical expertise but also in terms of his humanity," the Sennheiser company said in a statement.
