S3 Debuts eH1 Graphics Solution For Rugged HD Decoding

S3 Graphics have been making GPUs for longer than you can probably remember. NVIDIA and ATI may get all the attention, but the "Chrome" integrated graphics product is powering a few million devices as we speak. That's pretty monumental, and S3 doesn't show any signs of letting up anytime soon. In an effort to keep on trucking despite being undercover to most of the consumer world, the company has recently unveiled the latest newcomer to the Chrome Series graphics family, the 500E-based eH1.

Shown first at ESC 2010, this new graphics solution is designed for road roads, bumpy terrain and rugged environments. The eH1 is meant mainly for industrial-grade systems, offering extreme reliability and longevity, transforming any embedded platform into a multimedia powerhouse. The fanless eH1 includes support for DirectX 10.1, HD video decoding, and arange of display connectivity options including DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort, and CRT. Who knows, maybe this set will show up in your next military-approved netbook.

The article mentions a few times that this thing is fanless, yet the picture shown is of a card with a fan.

It does sound like a good, low cost solution for some PC's. That has always been a hallmark of S3 products, low cost.

Realneil's right - The picture's not fanless.

I presume this graphics solution would be good for motor home and boat manufacturers that integrate media consoles in their product lines.

That may be a older S3 card they are showing in the picture. They are talking about a integrated solution here not a PCIe card.

You get what you pay for, no matter how much Chrome you slap on it.

Well S3 is one of the most commonly found graphics solutions in the world. Maybe not in computers, but for electronics their pretty much everywhere.
