Reports Say Apple’s iPhone 5S A7 Processor is 64-Bit with Faster Graphics

There's always a media frenzy of rumors and speculation preceding every major Apple product launch, and we're in the midst of that right now. Come September 10, Apple is expected to unveil its next iPhone model, though there's been plenty of chatter of multiple models, including a lower-cost version made of polycarbonate plastic with various color options. And unless Apple throws a major curveball, the expectation is that there will be another high-end upgrade to the iPhone, which we'll call iPhone 5S.

Not much is known about the iPhone 5S, though Fox News anchor Clayton Morris claims to have heard from sources that the custom A7 processor in the next iPhone is about a third faster than the A6.

The custom A6 processor used in the iPhone 5 is a dual-core part based on ARM's architecture with three Power VR graphics cores. According to 9to5Mac, the iPhone 5S might also be a dual-core phone, but it could make the jump to 64-bit. Doing so would help it process animations and other effects more smoothly in iOS 7. You can also expect an updated graphics architecture, lest Apple wants to fall behind the competition.


In any event, all will be revealed in the coming weeks, including whether or not Apple is planning a gold version of the iPhone 5S, which is another rumor making the rounds.
