RIM's BlackBerry PlayBook Will Soon Launch In 16 Additional Markets

RIM plans to make its PlayBook tablet available in 16 countries outside of North America over the next month. The PlayBook launched in the US and Canada in April. As "the world’s first professional-grade tablet" the PlayBook offers a full-featured web browser, multitasking, HD multimedia capabilities, and many security features. However, this tablet has been criticized for its lack of dedicated email and calendar applications. The company plans to offer these applications via an upcoming over-the-air software upgrade.

The BlackBerry PlayBook tablet will launch in 16 markets around the world over the next 30 days. The following markets are included in the launch:

  • UK
  • Netherlands
  • Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
  • Hong Kong
  • Australia
  • Venezuela
  • Spain
  • Germany
  • UAE
  • Singapore
  • Mexico
  • France
  • Italy
  • India
  • Indonesia
  • Colombia

"Good Luck to Research in Motion on this plan of expansion and availability in those markets, I would advice them to have the dedicated email and calendar applications already built in before they send out those shipments."

good luck to RIM in their launches I hope they have worked out all their bugs before releasing this elsewhere.

I play with this thing every time I go to work. Blackberry has the brand power to garner support in these markets when the tablet is released. The only complaint I have heard at the store so far is just price. The price on most of these tablets is just too high for the consumers that frequent the store I work at.

I hope this works out well for RIM, but I have to wonder if they'd be better off getting the email/calendar/etc apps out the door before expanding the availability of this tablet.
