Production Playstation 3 Already Shipping

Digitimes has reported that Chinese media are confirming Asustek Computer has been shipping production Playstation 3 gaming consoles in small volume since the beginning of July. The first consignment should result in roughly 4 million units in total with a significant amount remaining to ship before the console officially launches on November 11. This flies in the face of rampant rumors the last few months in which the maturity of the console was called into question and delays were claimed to be absolute. Fortunately for those dying with anticipation for this item, we'll all have the chance to have a Playstation 3 well in advance of the holidays.

"After the first batch of PS3 shipments from Asustek, Foxconn Electronics (the registered trade name of Hon Hai Precision Industry) will also supply Sony's PS3 game consoles when demand rises, indicated the Apple Daily. The paper cited sources at Taiwan component suppliers as saying that about 200,000 component sets were shipped to Asustek in June and the volume will grow this month. From September to October, the suppliers estimate to ship more than one million sets to the game console manufacturer, the paper added."
