PlayOn Streams Content Onto Android 2.2+ Devices

If you're in the mood for streaming content, but you don't feel like making your way over to the sofa, there may be good news in your future. And by future, we're talking about right now! PlayOn, which is home to an app by the same name, is coming to Android 2.2 and higher. It's already streaming loads of content to Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, Google TV, Roku and iPhone users, and now that same concept is coming to Android. That means that Netflix, Hulu, Amazon VOD, ESPN3, TBS, Comedy Central and more can now be streamed over 3G and Wi-Fi to Froyo devices.

PlayOn states that the whole thing can be setup on Android devices in just 5 minutes, and a free two-week trial is available to those who want it. Of course,
existing PlayOn Premium customers may download the PlayOn Mobile app for free from the Android Marketplace. PlayOn and its full library of content, including updates for new channels and supported devices, can be purchased for $39.99 for the first year and $19.99 for each year thereafter.

PlayOn Premium customers with Android 2.2+ need just to download the PlayOn Mobile app from the Android Marketplace and initially pair the device over the local Wi-Fi network with the PlayOn media server. The device may then be used to stream online video and personal media content over 3G or Wi-Fi anywhere in the world where you can get a signal. In addition to Android, PlayOn also currently features mobile support for iOS devices including the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad.

Gotta love that iOS / Android competition, you know?

PlayOn is "must have" software. Android support is just more frosting on an already delicious cake.

I have been using the Xbox integration from Playon for years, and refer many people to their technology. I unfortunately can’t rave the same about their Android app. I have been using the Remote Access app with my Dish Network employee account. With their Sling technology, I can stream live TV, DVR recordings, and on demand content to my Android. Until Playon catches up in the Android market, I will be sticking with my DISH.
