Origin PC Adds Overclocked 4.3GHz Core i7-980X Extreme Option

Hot the heels of Intel's announcement of its shiny, new flagship Core i7-980X Extreme Edition 6-Core processor, custom builder Origin PC has added the 980X to its on-line system configurator. Perhaps more interesting than the almost immediate integration of the Core i7-980X Extreme, despite Intel's claim that the CPU wouldn't be available for a few more weeks, is that Origin PC is already offering a speedy 4.3GHz overclocked option...

6-Cores Running At 4.3GHz. Dang.

Consumers who opt for the $1,044 overclocked CPU must also choose Origin's custom liquid-cooling solution, but upgraded cooling should be expected with a high-end, overclocked PC such as this.

I'm so bad, I should be in detention...

Considering how fast a stock Core i7-980X Extreme Edition is, a roughly 1GHz overclock should make Origin's system an absolute screamer. I think it's time to make some calls--we may need to get one of these puppies in the lab ASAP.

Darn I'm getting the itch to build a 980x system....

:) i saw this on Fackbook already! :D

Yeah I saw there posting on this earlier on Facebook as well. Looks like a nice system. Super early to!

That's pretty impressive that they can get a significant portion at 4.3, or at least enough to make OCing the chips to that level consistent.

Hitech Legion OCed this chip with stock intel cooler DBX-B to 4.15ghz. I'm suprised that a water system setup couldn't go much further than Intels own design.

Not that they can't maybe its for stability reasons, not everyone knows what they are doing and can't maintain their system with too high OC'ed

I bet it is very bad boy PC system with Intel I7 980X OC'ed at 4.30 GHz. I wish i would like to get that system like this for high performance games.

Yep, Origin got there first. These guys are a step ahead of the competition.

First to do what? Add words to their configurator? Anyone can do that. Unless you're an actual Intel partner under embargo. In which case you actually had the samples to get a review system out, like MAINGEAR and Falcon Northwest. MAINGEAR has an Editors' Choice award from PC Mag for their 980X system at 4.3GHz. Which came out 2 days before this announcement. Coincidence?

They are the first to offer the Core i7-980X Extreme CPU overclocked to 4.3GHz for its gaming desktops in online configuration.

Like the article states, "though some media outlets tested systems from Falcon Northwest and Maingear, neither of them has added the CPU to their online configurators."

It's a small victory yes, but it's an important one for Origins PC. I own a system and I've been extremely impressed with their attention to detail and build quality, as well as their service. Any media coverage they receive is great for the consumer.

Also, the Origins PC is priced very competitively with the Maingear/ Falcon Northwest when configurations are matched up.

Let me reiterate: real Intel partners have embargoes they have to abide by. If they don't, they lose access to these early samples, etc, that make those reviews possible.

So Origin is either a) breaking embargo or b) not a partner and not subject to the restriction placed on partners. If it's the latter, how did they get a chip to test this 4.3GHz overclock?

I was thinking about that one to Chrismorley. They are a new retailer though, but one with some pretty deep industry ties as well. So maybe they were enabled by Intel to do so as a future model. It may be even configurable and order able with a shipping agreement.
