OUYA Android Console Launches to Retail, Already Sold Out on Amazon and GameStop

Android game consoles are trying to take over the living room, or at least co-exist with much more expensive gaming systems. Whether or not the market will react favorably to playing mobile games on their giant screen TVs remains to be seen, but we can certainly say OUYA is off to a promising start now that it's available at retail.

There's been a ton of hype surrounding OUYA ever since it's highly successful Kickstarter campaign in which the console's developers raised nearly $8.6 million in funding, blowing way past its comparatively modest goal of $950,000. And that was just the tip of the iceberg. Through a series of private investments, OUYA at last count raised a grand total of around $23.6 million.

Fast forward to today and the console is now available to purchase at several popular online sites, though initial inventory sold out quick at some locations. Both Amazon and GameStop show that OUYA is temporarily out of stock online, though several brick-and-mortar GameStock locations we looked up indicated that it was either "in stock" or "low stock." In addition, Best Buy doesn't seem to be having any trouble fulfilling orders online.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out, not just with OUYA, but with the handful of other Android consoles looking to carve out some space in the living room.
