OCZ Technology to Deliver SandForce-based Solid State Drive Solutions for both Enterprise and Consumer Applications

San Jose, Calif. - November 10, 2009 - OCZ Technology Group, Inc., a worldwide leader in innovative, ultra-high performance and high reliability memory and flash-based storage as an alternative to hard disk drives (HDDs), today announced its collaboration with SandForce on OCZ’s next generation of mainstream and enterprise solid state drives (SSDs). I'm still waiting for one of these companies CEO's to fall on his/her head and offer this type of drive at a reasonable price.

But it's not like they're keeping the prices artificially high. Technology just hasn't caught up to offer these drives at the sub-$100 price point for the 128GB version. I mean that's what I'm assuming...

Hey; I also wanted to ask something related to SSD's and the part of the market. From what I was reading in the last Intel update specific to SSD technology there is a specific limitation at 22nm or lower. This limitation is basically that it is pointless to go any smaller than that, because the limitations from 22nm down are all but process killing. This makes that size the end to the furthering or further development of ssd's in general. This is also the reason Intel says they are working on new memory technologies.

So if thats the end of the current and specific Technology implementation, and it is only 10nm smaller than current technology where is it going? From the way it sounds to me in a very short time, and especially in the current world of hardware at the speed it currently moves SSD will have no future advantage past that size. Therefore the technology will never mature, or really get much better in any price fluctuation, because the development can go no further.

This is what I am assuming from what I have read, and with that reading being in a white paper from Intel, would also seem about as concrete as it can get.

even if there is not performance gain, there will still be the advantage of the small size. They will be able to fit more chips on a single board. On top of that, they can always experiment with things like an internal 4 way RAID 0 or even the possibility of each chip on board acting as a single drive as a part of a whole RAID. The transfer speeds would be enormous and only limited by the bus. This kind of technology already exists in some SSDs altho it's more like a 2 way RAID 0 in a single drive.

On top of that, you can take multiple drives and put them in a RAID 0 yourself. They scale pretty good! My 2 Vertex's had a transfer speed of over 400MB/s when I first installed them. I've been wanting to add a 3rd one to the RAID and upgrade to Win7 :-P
