OCZ Unveils Z-Drive R3, Vertex 3 and Other SSD Goodness

In typical fashion, OCZ had plenty of cool stuff on display in their suite at the Aria Hotel, a few miles away from the hustle and bustle of the Las Vegas Convention Center and CES. As we’ve come to expect from OCZ, a plethora of new solid state storage products on display, along with some new power supplies and other memory products.

Among the goodness, OCZ was showing off an updated version of their HSDL (High Speed Data Link) that uses an optical connection between the drive and controller. According to OCZ, the link is capable of data rates of about 20Gb/s.

OCZ was also showing off an array of their high-end ZX series power supply units. OCZ’s ZX series PSUs are 80+ Gold certified and offer modular cabling.

Here’s one that’s sure to get your juices flowing. Also in OCZ’s suite were a few of the company’s upcoming Vertex 3 Pro SSDs. The Vertex 3 Pros are based on next-gen SandForce SF-2582 controller technology and will offer single-drive read speeds in excess of 550MB/s with 525MB/s writes and up to 70K random 4K IOPS.

Also on display was a next-gen Z-Drive R3 that sports RAIDed SandForce controller and a significantly revamped design with a smaller footprint, newly designed heatsink, and integrate Super-Cap, which can supply power to the card in short bursts to give it enough time to complete a write operation in the event of a power failure.
