Nokia's Ovi Store Goes Live In Select Markets

It has taken awhile, but Nokia's response to Apple's App Store is finally open for business. After being teased a few weeks ago, Nokia has announced that its Ovi Store is now live in select markets, with AT&T looking to join in here in the United States later this year. Nokia customers can surf over to store.ovi.com on their device browser in order to begin downloading, personalizing and loading their phones up with applications, games, videos, podcasts, productivity tools, web and location-based services, etc.

Tero Ojanperä, Executive Vice President, Nokia Services, seemed pretty stoked about the opening: "Ovi Store is open for business and we've stocked the shelves with both local and global content for a broad range of Nokia devices. Ovi Store makes shopping for content and applications easy and fun for feature phone and smartphone owners alike."

Unfortunately, the details surrounding the AT&T arrangement remain murky. All we're told is that it'll launch "later this year," though we wouldn't be surprised to see that slip. Thankfully, AT&T already understands the pressures that accompany hosting a high-profile mobile app store, so hopefully it'll be fully prepared within the next few months. So now we've got the Ovi Store, BlackBerry App World and Apple's App Store -- anyone else thinking of joining the bandwagon while it's still picking up steam?
