Nokia Puts 808 PureView Smartphone On Sale In America For $699

How much would you be willing to pay for your next Nokia smartphone? Off contract, that is. With the Lumia 900 being practically given away for free on a 2-year deal at AT&T, it's hard to stomach much over $99, but somehow, Nokia thinks it has a shot at selling a few of its 808 PureView devices in the United States. At $699.

The 808 PureView isn't even a "smartphone" by today's definition, opting for Symbian as the operating system, and relying on just 512MB of RAM and a single-core 1.3GHz processor.
But the one thing it does have? A wild camera. There are 41 megapixels of awesomeness in there, and there's zero doubt that folks are taking notice with such a figure. Of course, a rad cameraphone is worth a premium, but $699? Yikes. You can vote with your wallet by buying (or not buying) from Amazon now that it's available in the U.S.A. Previously, it was only available in international regions.

Off contract it is a fair price.

The posting said "The 808 PureView isn't even a "smartphone" by today's definition" - what's that suppose to mean ? Let's take the most basic thing about a smartphone: Contacts. It syncs with perfectly with outlook ota, Bluetooth, cable. Many of "today's smartphone" will fail by missing a mobile number, swapping fields, freezing on scrolling the address book etc. That's Contacts. We can also talk about Bluetooth operation and multitasking if you like
