Nintendo Not Going All-In With Smartphone Gaming

Nintendo may see companies like HTC, Google, Sony Ericsson and Apple as the real rivals in the mobile gaming space, but the whole 'can't beat 'em, join 'em' phrase doesn't apply universally. Yasuhiro Minagawa, a spokesman for the company, recently told Bloomberg that their strategy to develop software only for their own hardware "hasn't changed and won't change." In other words, you can forget about Nintendo developing a cute title for iPhone or Android, at least not with any major push behind it.

It seems that Nintendo is content staying put in their own world, despite the fact that a ton of app spending is going into the 'game' category. It's actually a bold move; Nintendo would stand to rake in tons of money if they initiated an all-out assault on the mobile gaming market. If Nintendo titles started popping up in the App Store and the Android Market, we have all ideas the reaction would be largely positive. It's still possible that the company will change their mind in due time, but for now, it seems the 3DS is suiting them just fine.
