Nintendo 3DS Update Brings New Browser And eShop

The greatest part about software updates? It allows the device you purchased to get even better. Nintendo's 3DS shipped only a few months ago, but the handheld gaming machine will be getting its first major update on June 6th, just days from now. When the update starts flowing to devices, it'll bring along a new Web browser as well as something pretty special: Nintendo's eShop.

That browser will support 3D content; 3D Web sites aren't too popular right now, but with the 3D bandwagon rolling on, we suspect that will be changing in due time. As for the eShop, it's a content-downloading service that features applications, product information, and game trailers. Nintendo has already had success finding original 3D software, classic games that have been re-made in 3D (3D Classics), Game Boy / GBC virtual console games, and over 350 DSiWare games. Within the Nintendo eShop, Nintendo 3DS users will also be able to download the free Pokédex 3D application and start collecting data for more than 150 Pokémon from the Pokémon™ Black Version and Pokémon White Version games. This new application lets users view each Pokémon in 3D with animated motion and sound. The Pokémon image can be rotated 360 degrees, allowing users to zoom in and view it from any angle.

The system update also gives Nintendo DSi and Nintendo DSi XL system owners the ability to easily transfer most of their previously downloaded Nintendo DSiWare games to their new Nintendo 3DS systems, and in the near future, users will be able to download a free application for a short-form video service that will enable them to view specially selected video content, including 3D movie trailers, comedy clips and music videos automatically received when the SpotPass feature is activated. Not bad for a free update!

Nintendo needs to start doing something right. Lets hope this is the kickoff.

Not with their Draconian License agreement for this particular device. It certainly won't be in my bag.

I agree with you. Software updates are awesome! Man, I don't have a Nintendo 3DS, but handheld gaming devices have advanced quite a bit since my old Nintendo Gameboy :)

Meh, still not interested in the device. Its super cool, dont get me wrong, but in all honesty the NGP is looking more impressive. Also i agree with Omegadraco their license agreement has gotten scary, wonder if things will get worse with the next iteration of the device.
