New PlayStation Bluetooth Headset Also Works With Cellphones

With the introduction of the PlayStation Move, people are cutting even more cords on their PlayStation 3 console. So why not cut another? If you're an avid multiplayer gamer, and you like to chat with your team members while in the heat of the battle, it's somewhat of a hassle to have wired headsets following you as you dodge missiles and nearby family members. But there's a solution: the new Bluetooth headset for PS3.

The original version was introduced in 2008, and now a new version is coming to market. The 2010 model, which will be called 'Bluetooth Headset' plain and simple, will be available later in the month for $49.99. Just like a normal Bluetooth headset, this unit is designed to reside on your ear and let you communicate to others on your PlayStation via Bluetooth. It has a charging dock/stand as well, hopefully making it more difficult to misplace.

It offers a dual-microphone design, automatic pairing via USB cable with the PS3, in-game headset status indicator, an easily accessible microphone mute button, and a charging cradle which also functions as a desktop microphone. So yes, it's definitely good for doing more than just multiplayer gaming. New features include a redesign, making it sleeker, high-gloss and more compact – 30% smaller than the original model. In addition, the Bluetooth Headset now has built-in noise cancellation for filtering out ambient noise when used with the PS3 system as well as your mobile phone. It can also be used with a mobile phone, and it supports three-way calling as well as call waiting. Battery life? There's six hours of that, and it can be recharged via USB.
