MySpace Launches Voter-Registration Plan

With midterm elections coming up this November, candidates are on the move to gain voter interest, especially the interest of younger voters. MySpace.com is helping the cause, partnering with the non partisan group Declare Yourself. MySpace.com estimates that 80 percent of its user base is old enough to vote, but will a few new profile tools be enough to get them interested in politics?

"MySpace is not alone trying to register Americans, particular youths voting for the first time. A San Francisco-based nonprofit group called Mobile Voter offers a service for people to register via cell-phone text messaging. Political campaigns themselves have also been turning to MySpace and similar sites to reach supporters, with many candidates creating profile pages they hope users would further circulate."
