Remember several years ago when people were so hesitant to switch from Windows to Mac OS X because they felt like migrating was going to be too hard? People were worried about software and file types, and a spate of migration tools popped up to make it easier. The same thing is happening again, but this time it’s about users switching from iOS to Android
, and specifically, to the Moto X
has developed a tool to let users migrate their contacts and calendar from their iPhone
to a Moto X device. The tool, simply called “Migrate”, will appear when you buy a Moto X on MotoMaker.com. You simply select “I have an iPhone”, enter your iCloud credentials, click Continue, and click Begin Transfer.
Then, you log in to your Google account and the migration tool will do its thing. When the migration is complete, you can access that contact and calendar data from a desktop browser as well as the Moto X itself. Data that migrates will have an “iCloud_” prefix so you know where it came from.
Migrate only does so much at this point, but it’s clear that Motorola has big plans for it. “There is a long way to go, but its a start,” said Motorola Mobility’s Punit Soni in a Google+ post
