Microsoft's "Project Pink" Reveal To Bring New Sidekick-Like Phones To Verizon

As if there wasn't enough drama in the tech world this week, Microsoft has come forward to announce a special event for next month, the 12th. Of course, the event's secret was kept a secret for around 60 seconds, and now we all know (or at least assume) what's coming: Pink. And when the event title is "It's time to share," are you shocked that someone shared all of this?

"Pink" is a label that has been tossed around for months, and while Microsoft's play in the smartphone space is obviously Windows Mobile 6.5 (and soon to be Windows Phone 7), the company also sees opportunity at the lower-end, particularly with texting-like-crazy teens. Reportedly, Microsoft will officially unwrap Project Pink next Monday, as it "attempts to gain traction in the growing market for young smartphone users."

The reports mention that these phone(s) will be sold by Verizon Wireless in the U.S., and the names will be different when actually launched. It's assumed that these will have a Sidekick-like appearance, which is great for text messaging, and they will actually be made by Sharp--the same company who made actual Sidekick devices.

Sidekick LX

Does the world really need another Microsoft OS in the mobile space? We have to admit, the options aren't great down in the featurephone space, and considering just how elegant Windows Phone 7 looks, we're guessing this will be a win for everyone. Hold off on that phone purchase just a bit longer...we get the feeling something good might happen in just under a week.

Well that sucks for me, I just bought a Blackberry a little over a month ago. Eh, I probably couldn't afford the windows 7 based smartphones anyhow.

Watch me be wrong >.<

I am waiting on the EVO with Sprint personally. I see no reason not to seeing as Sprint has the full refund 30 day guarantee, not to mention from what I can tell locally a strong network, and the network is 4G as well here. Then that 69.99 deal can't be beat either. Maybe I can get Dave and Marco to recommend me to Sprint for a real world testing article/bechmarks etc write up on the EVO, now that would be sweet :)

While this is sorta interesting, It's just going to be another Sidekick phone. If they can tell me why I want it and what features are important to me, then I might want it.

I agree with Rapid1, I am waiting for the EVO!

Pretty soon, I am sure we will see just as much competition with the Slate computers that we are now seeing with all these phones.

It will surely make "doing your homework before buying" Necessary.

Thanks to sites like HotHardware, at least we get the latest updates for those choices :)
