MSI Introduces AMD-Powered CR630 Notebook

MSI's Classis notebook line is expanding once more, this time with the CR630 leading the way. Style wise, the machine fits right into MSI's prior line, with an understated form factor and and 15.6" display, perfect for the mainstream. But underneath of the exterior is a rather unique interior.

The CR630 ditches the Intel vibe and goes straight for AMD, with the company's Danube platform responsible for powering things. There's also an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4270 GPU on the graphics side, and an Athlon II CPU to go alongside of it. There's a 15.6" HD LED backlit display with a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio, and it weighs in at around 2.5kg.

Other specs include two DDR3 memory slots, a 1366x768 native resolution, 2.5" HDD slot (room for a 250GB, 320GB or 500GB SATA drive), a 4-in-1 card reader, HDMI/VGA outputs, a 6-cell battery 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v2.1, a 1.3MP webcam, twin speakers and an internal eSATA port to handle 3Gbps connections. MSI, as usual, has yet to put a price on this machine, but we suspect it will be shipping soon.

AMD Danube platform: The CR630 comes with AMD’s latest Danube platform with AMD Athlon™ II processor and ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4270 integrate graphics which supports the newest UVD2 hardware decoder, accerating high definition video and decoding performance as well as enhancing 3D graphics by 20%. In addition, this machine's power-sipping qualities extend battery life.

Cinema-class 16:9 ratio high definition LED backlit display: The 15.6" large screen CR630 not only packs a powerful image processing core, it boasts a cinema-class 16:9 HD LED display—the ideal ratio for viewing films. That means no more of those annoying black strips at the top and bottom of the screen when viewing DVDs.

Starlight design color film print technology: The top of the CR630's cover and the area in front of the keyboard feature a unique starlight design color film print and rhombic pattern in the area above the keyboard to enhance the classy texture.

Smooth lines, chic exterior: The 45-degree beveled edges of the stylishly classic CR630 give the lines that include the DVD player, I/O slot, and heat dissipation vents on the sides a clean, smooth aerodynamic flow. The battery fits seamlessly into the bottom, adding to the minimalist flow of the profile. What's more, it is four-fifths the thickness of other 15.6" laptops and tips the scales at less than 2.5kg.

Furthermore, the CR630 comes with an internal eSATA port which transfers data at 3Gb/s—six times faster than the conventional USB2.0.
