Lenovo’s IdeaCentre Horizon 27-Inch Table PC Now Up For Pre-Order

Initially showcased at CES, Lenovo's about to make "family time" a lot more fun with the IdeaCentre Horizon Table PC. Be careful not to confuse this with a "tablet." There's just one letter missing from the end, but it makes a huge (literally) difference. This giant, family-centric PC is now available for pre-order in the U.S., doubling as a Windows 8 touch-based PC for the home or office. The machine is slated to hit stores in "late June."

Just lay Horizon flat in Table PC mode to activate the Aura interface and begin interacting with other people and favorite content, from photos and videos to apps and games. If you've ever played a classic arcade game on one of those tabletop units, you'll get the point -- just with much better graphics and a fresher user interface. Horizon comes preloaded with games from Bluestacks with additional access to thousands more for download. It offers a library of Lenovo games such as Air Hockey as well asStagelight digital music creation software for budding musicians. To bridge the physical and the digital worlds, Horizon comes with a special set of on-the-glass accessories including an e-dice and up to four joysticks and strikers (no batteries required) for a different kind of game play. And with one press of a button, users can rotate the screen 180 degrees to easily show others forward-facing content.

While Horizon attracts attention for its unique family time Table PC mode, it also doubles as a user’s high performance, all-in-one 27-inch desktop. Within, there's a Core i7 processor, NVIDIA GeForce graphics, and Dolby audio. Horizon includes the Lenovo Eye Distancing System to alert users and adjust the screen’s brightness when users get too close to the screen.  It also includes a built-in battery and WiFi to easily move it around the house, and it brings out the best of Windows 8 with its 10-finger touch support. Pricing will start at $1700 and up, but if it brings the family back together -- that's a total win, right?

This is something I could see working very well. 10 finger touch support and all the gadgets it could be used by two people considering its size it sounds like very easily. This is the kind of thing I see Windows 8 people great for. Big surface, multiple touch support to use with metro.
